Passion Projects — Textile Design Bachelor Project & Fashion Film

Encoded Identity.

By textile designer Eische

A profound exploration of digital footprints — a textile art piece that physically manifests a digital identity.

The textile piece, made visible on screen

The Goal

To visualize the abstract and often invisible concept of digital identity through a textile art piece and an accompanying fashion film. The core message delves deeper than the information we voluntarily share online; it explores the subconscious data trails we leave behind — cookies, browsing habits, and online activities. The project aimed to highlight the massive, invisible market of data brokers who capitalize on this involuntary transparency, translating this complex theme into a visually striking, sci-fi-inspired narrative.

The Challenge

The creative vision demanded a highly polished, strong sci-fi aesthetic — a genre that typically requires significant budgets, large crews, and extensive visual effects. The primary hurdle was achieving this high-end, big-budget look with practically no financial resources and a very small core team.

The Execution

Through resourcefulness and strong network synergies, the project was brought to life against the odds. We secured access to a fully equipped film studio at the university in Tübingen. Crucially, our gaffer brought extensive experience in LED programming, allowing us to create complex, futuristic lighting setups practically, rather than relying heavily on post-production. By leveraging favors, sheer dedication, and a tight-knit network of creatives, we executed a production that vastly exceeded its zero-budget constraints, creating an atmosphere that feels expansive and expensive.

The Result

A visually stunning and conceptually deep fashion film that perfectly complemented the textile artwork. The project was lauded as one of the best submissions ever seen within the textile design bachelor program. Furthermore, its striking aesthetic and relevant message resonated far beyond academia, gaining significant traction and a highly positive response on social media.
